TERRIFIC NEWS!!!
Thanks to everybody's combined efforts for over a year, we have been successful in getting South Portland City staff to reject NGL's proposal for Rigby Yard, based on the required limitation of cubic foot storage for propane gas, as applicable to Rigby Yard zoning district. Read about it in this Portland Press Herald article: "South Portland code enforcement official rejects propane depot proposal" http://www.pressherald.com/2016/01/08/south-portland-official-rejects-propane-depot-proposal/ But our fight is not yet over! Because there’s still potential for other companies to attempt to use Rigby Yard, (too close to residences), for propane gas, we must keep our presence known at meetings! We need to continue to to be sure our voices are heard. You can also help by calling your Council members (see City of So. Portland website) and writing letters to the press -- Sentry, Forecaster, Portland Press Herald. Here is the link to Sarah Malley's recent letter to the Portland Press Herald. These letters make a tremendous difference! http://www.pressherald.com/2016/01/02/letter-to-the-editor-rigby-yard-neighborhood-should-not-face-added-risk/ ............................................... PLANNING BOARD MEETING When: Tuesday, January 12th at 7PM Where: South Portland Community Center, Senior Wing What: a moratorium on the NGL proposal at Rigby Yard. Even though the City Council failed to pass the 6-month moratorium, the issue still goes to the Planning Board. Afterwards it’ll come back to the Council again, where it unfortunately will probably not get the 5 votes it needs to pass. However, please try to attend this meeting for support all the same. It really matters when the community shows up! ..................................................................................................... CITY COUNCIL MEETING Please make every effort to attend this very important meeting. And bring your friends and neighbors! When: Wed., January 20th at 7 p.m. Where: South Portland City Hall What: City Council meeting for the 1st reading and hopefully 4 votes in support of the Fire Ordinance Amendment we are recommending, which would require that a propane facility be located at a “safe distance” from residences. ~ Meg and the Protect South Portland team Comments are closed.
