A beautiful Solstice to all!
As the light begins to return, we have important work to tend to.
1. MORATORIUM CITY COUNCIL MEETING
The Council has decided to revisit the moratorium issue TONIGHT.
What: City Council Meeting
When: Tonight, Monday, December 21st at 7 p.m.
Where: South Portland City Hall.
It remains crucial for as many South Portlanders as possible to be present to oppose having large quantities of propane gas in Rigby Yard. Because the opposing side keeps showing up in solid numbers, which impacts City Councilors who remain on the fence, we must fill the Chamber with neighborhood voices who can affirm the need for more time to examine this proposal.
Please come tonight to support the moratorium.
2. FIRE CODE AMENDMENT CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP
What: So. Portland City Council Workshop
When: Monday, Dec. 28th at 6:30 PM
Where: So. Portland City Hall
Please join us next week as the City Council meets to consider critical fire code amendments to meet risks emerging from large scale propane development at Rigby Yard. The need to update and amend our fire code is critical at this point. While we are fully aware that our Council always works hard to balance the concerns of South Portland residents with an increasingly complex industrial environment, right now we need to continue to remind them that the health and welfare of our citizens depends on their careful assessment of our fire code.
We commend the Council for considering the fire amendments, and urge them to make a thorough assessment of South Portland’s ability to deal with more complex and often more dangerous technologies and practices.
